This project is an ongoing initiative aimed at improving the quality of water service for residents in Burgaw while minimizing disruptions during maintenance and emergencies. Insertion valves are strategically placed to isolate hydrants and water lines, allowing for targeted maintenance or repairs without the need for widespread water shut-offs. With approximately 75% of hydrants lacking valves, the project focuses on installing insertion valves to address this deficiency. By isolating hydrants and lines, the town can effectively manage maintenance activities and respond swiftly to emergencies without inconveniencing large numbers of residents. The project budget of $25,000 allows for the installation of approximately three insertion valves per year. Additionally, there is consideration for purchasing equipment to perform these installations in-house, which would involve an initial investment of around $60,000 along with training costs. Ultimately, the Insertion Valves project aims to enhance water system resilience, minimize service disruptions, and improve the overall reliability of water distribution infrastructure in Burgaw.
