Sewer Manhole Rehabilitation - Inflow & Infiltration (I&I)

Project Location

Various Locations

Project Description

This project addresses critical issues identified by Public Works in various areas of Burgaw. These areas, including West Bridgers Street and Penderlea Highway, Cypress Street, Pine Street, Basden Road, and North Smith Street, require attention to mitigate significant inflow and infiltration problems. Inflow & Infiltration (I&I) occurs when water seeps into sewer pipes through holes, cracks, joint failures, and faulty connections, or flows into sewer systems via roof drains, downspouts, foundation drains, storm drains, and maintenance hole covers. This excess water decreases sewer system efficiency and can lead to sanitary sewer overflows (SSO), impacting the effectiveness of wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, and lift stations. The project aims to rehabilitate sewer manholes and address infiltration and inflow issues to prevent future problems and maintain the integrity of the sewer system. This initiative is crucial for ensuring the proper functioning of wastewater infrastructure, reducing the risk of environmental contamination, and avoiding costly repairs and potential sanitary sewer overflows in the future.
